Currently under development for (MDCPS) Miami-Dade County Public Schools with Rescue Earth and its Venture Capital Solar partners. The Venture Capital partners are currently fully funding and implementing solar field programs at private institutions in New Jersey to produce power and Renewable Energy Credits or REC's. The program has the VC firm pay 100% of the solar installation, while taking ownership of the REC's and taking the dollar rebate from the local utility and municipality.
The concept is to implement Solar fields on the roofs and walkway covers of existing schools. The kilowatt creation would be need to exceed current school site consumption and create enough power to generate a solar field that warrants REC creation. The motivation is to economize school operating cost and reduce overall budgets. I am currently negotiating to have some the profit sharing with the regional schools to create a profit center to fund the solar curriculum programs.
Right now the Net Metering rules in Florida do not allow for for more than 2,000 Kilowatts per site. This is hindering implementation of such plans in Florida. We are currently lobbying to have the Net Metering restriction removed so that we can implement higher power fields at each school. This is the only restriction. |
